These beautiful lakes were my introduction to the Terrace Hiking Club and what an intro it was. The lakes are the bluest of blue,with the mountains and clear skies as a backdrop it was a sight I will never forget.

You will find these lakes just outside of Hazelton. The road up to the trail head is 4x4 country, plenty of places to get stuck. The trail, which is classified as a moderate hike, takes you through forest and suddenly open up to reveal the first of two lakes. Waterfalls cascade down into the lower lake and as you walk above it you will see the seven sisters peaking over the mountains. It gets better as you hike farther up, you will skirt rockfalls and then again you are dazzled by the second lake. This one is surrounded by clay which at first glance looks like soft brown sand. Not my idea of a swimming hole though, brrrrr, too cold for me. If you set up for lunch away from the lake then the bugs will sort of leave you alone. Once you have finished eating there are the peaks behind the lake to climb. As this was my first time there, I was in no shape to hike any higher up. But next year, when we go up I will be one of the ones climbing those peaks. The hike down is easy on the legs, not a real knee grinder like gunsight peak.
